ePortfolios

Eportfolios are a valuable learning and assessment tool. An eportfolio is a digitized collection of artifacts including demonstrations, resources, and accomplishments that represent an individual, group, or institution. This collection can be comprised of text-based, graphic, or multimedia elements archived on a Web site or on other electronic media such as a CD-ROM or DVD. An eportfolio is more than a simple collection-it can also serve as an administrative tool to manage and organize work created with different applications and to control who can see the work. Eportfolios encourage personal reflection and often involve the exchange of ideas and feedback.

MERLOT Content Builder

The MERLOT Content Builder, leads to an external page previously known as the Carnegie Foundation KEEP Toolkit, is a webpage development tool that is integrated with MERLOT, and is directly accessible by registered users from the MERLOT homepage.  It is an easy-to-use template-based tool for creating web pages (called Snapshots).  Complete websites including a navigation bar (called Stitched Groups), containing text, imported documents, and uploaded photos and videos can be created by “stitching” together several Content Builder web pages.

A Content Builder webpage consists of a title "box" plus a series of additional boxes arrayed on the page, each box displaying an aspect of webpage content.  For text-only mode browsers, images inserted in a Content Builder webpage can include “alt tags” describing the image when the cursor is rolled over it.

The Content Builder is integrated with the  MERLOT system making it very easy for users to make their material public, and/or contribute it directly  to the MERLOT repository.   The Content Builder also provides guidance for assigning a Creative Commons license publicly available materials.
