California State University Fresno (9852170)The Western Noyce Regional Conference provides professional development tailored to the special needs of Noyce Scholars and a venue for the projects to examine meaningful ways to support and follow the Scholars in their programs. The professional development sessions for scholars will be provided by University and K-12 professionals that have an established track record of providing professional development. See sample presentations from the 2010 Conference.
MERLOT is a leading edge, user-centered, searchable collection of peer reviewed and selected higher education, online learning materials, catalogued by registered members and a set of faculty development support services. MERLOT's vision is to be a premiere online community where faculty, staff, and students from around the world share their learning materials and pedagogy.
As a system, CSU's goal is to at least double the production of Math and Science teachers during the next five years. This means increasing from a baseline figure of approximately 750 new Math and Science teachers produced annually to a minimum of 1,500 new teachers produced in these fields. MERLOT's strategic goal is to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning by increasing the quantity and quality of peer reviewed online learning materials that can be easily incorporated into faculty designed courses.
The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship program seeks to encourage talented Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics majors and professionals to become K-12 Mathematics and Science teachers. The program provides funds to institutions of higher education to support scholarships, stipends, and programs for students who commit to teaching in high-need K-12 school districts.
